Rainy Day Cragging in the Utah Hills - The Cathedral

Matt Berry on Raising Cain 5.12b

It's Sunday. It's raining. And you came to Southern Utah to climb sandstone. What the F*#$!?

...It's the man upstairs, and he's telling you to go to church.

About 45 minutes due West of St. George on the Old Highway 91, lies the perfect crag for defying the spring rains and getting some worship in. The Cathedral is a limestone cave just to looker's left of the Wailing Wall, and completely sheltered from downpour.

The warm-up in the Cathedral is a 5.10, and the grades move up from there with 1 5.11, 5.12 (2) & 5.13 (3). The approach is short, about a 20-minute hike in after parking at the cow pen, and it is completely reachable with a 2wd vehicle. Exact directions can be found on Mountain Project. No cell reception out here, and camping is permitted just about anywhere that isn't fenced in for cows.

Just around the corner from The Cathedral, the Wailing Wall has similar grades. This area (called Welcome Springs) is also home to Sumo Wall, Basilica, and Logan Crag, although they don't provide the rain cover that the Cathedral does.
